"Not a Dime, Just Your Time"

Hey guys, I know I don't post often enough, but this is important to me and I hope you take the time to read it.

This is a picture of me with me wonderful in-laws. See that beautiful woman on the left? She's one of those people that make you grateful you're a part of this crazy, beautiful world. And she's running for the state legislature in District 52 (Herriman).

Her campaign is completely different than anything that has been done before. Her slogan is "Not a Dime, Just Your Time." She is pledging that she will not accept any campaign donations OR spend a dime of her own money. She's relying on word of mouth, social media, and the power of the internet to get her story out there. What she's asking for, instead of your money, is your time. She wants you to get involved. She feels, in order to accurately represent her district, people need to be involved with their government.

I encourage you to read this article about her that was featured in City Weekly this week:

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Together, we can make a difference. It's time for our communities to come together and demand accurate representation. Remember....

Nothing about us without us is for us.

Sammy turns 1

Yep. It happened. Sammy turned one. I hate to be that parent that is constantly wondering where the time went, but it feels like no time ahas passed at all! Here's a picture recap of his birthday...

Nick repainted a rocking chair he had as a kid. It's got a block U and everything. We start them young in this family
Sammy opening some presents from Mom and Dad
I think he was just as excited to be on the couch as he was to get presents
His musical lady bug. This boy seriously loves music
Opening more presents at his party at Grandma's
I thought this was the cutest picture! They look so much alike
Sammy sharing his cake. Notice the blue frosting beard?
He was so funny, he kept dipping his fingers in and licking the frosting. He never actually smashed his smash cake.
He still managed to make quite a mess....

It was such a fun party and so nice to have family and friends there. Sammy is still enjoying his toys weeks later. We've been opening a few at a time. I'm pretty sure we'll be opening them until Christmas :)

Thank you to everyone who came!

Photo update

I've gotten so behind on blogging this summer I've decided, rather than try and write an update with everything we've been up to, I'll just post a photo update. I'm not sure many people read my blog anyway... maybe if I updated it more often? Something to think about...

Now for the pictures!

Getting his helmet off

Post-helmet. He was pretty excited.

He's officially reached that age. He's getting
into EVERYTHING.

Helping his God-Mother Clare pack for NYC

One of many supervised dates with Kayana

Bath time fun.

Helping Nick plant trees

Playing on his "big-boy" bike.
His first trip to the pool. He loved it of course.

Ragnar 2011

I realize it's a few weeks late, but I'm behind on my blogging. This year, Nick and I ran the Ragnar relay with his work. It. Was. Brutal. I think it was worth it and would do it again next year, but Nick has sworn he will never ever do it again.

I ran as runner 9 and Nick was runner 12 (which meant he ran the last leg and crossed the finish line). My only complaint is that our van was the van that ran over night... and no one told us that. Otherwise it was worth the sleep deprivation. I think that both of us didn't get more than 3 or 4 hours of sleep that night. And that was in a van while driving on dirt roads. Given the fact that I ran my 10 mile leg at 1:00 am and Nick was running his leg at 4:45 am, we were pretty loopy by the end. All in all, we all had a good time.

Nick before he ran his first leg. Notice how NOT grumpy he was. That changed pretty quick.

Me showing some team pride.

Adam sporting his awesome Snuggie. We were getting pretty tired by then.

Yep. The snow at the top of Guardsman's pass was taller than that girl.

We finished! Best feeling ever!

Mexico

Nick and I got to go to Mexico for 6 days last week. We went with my friend Danielle and her boyfriend Brad. They got a free rental house through his step mom and, since it was a two bedroom, they asked us if we wanted to come. So, after arranging for a baby sitter for the week (my awesome sister-in-law and my equally awesome mom) we decided to do it! It was an awesome trip, but maybe not as relaxing as it could have been. Here's the run down:
Day 1: Bribed the police
Day 2: Lost in the Yucatan on our way home from Chichen Itza
Day 3: Nick and Brad got the car stuck in a sand dune and had to be dug out by the military
Day 4: We went to Xel-Ha and I got to swim with the dolphins. Best day of the trip!
Day 5: Nick and Brad went snorkling. They went out so far and for so long Danielle and I seriously thought they had drowned. Worst day of the trip.
Day 6: The day we left. Other than the stomach bug Nick managed to pick up, this day wasn't very eventful.
Any of you who know my husband know that this is pretty fun-of-the-mill behavior for him. He sure loves his adventures! Anyway, here are some pictures for your enjoyment.

Easter Eggs!

Happy (belated) Easter! I know it's been almost a week, but I wanted to share our egg dying pictures. Enjoy!
Nick getting ready to dye eggs.. and eating chips and salsa.
Me and my boys. Sammy is ready to get started!
One of our fabulous eggs!
The baboon egg nick made....
Complete with a pink bum!!
In other news, Sammy is days away from crawling! He's pulling himself across the room with his arms. I'm in trouble.....
My grandma is turning 70 this weekend and my cousing Jessica and her family are in town. It's been so fun having them here. And happy birthday Grandma! I got her an awesome gift! I'm pretty much the best granddaughter ever! :)
And the count down to Mexico has officially begun! I can't wait to hang out on the beach. I'm pretty sure Nick is looking forward to a vacation too.

Raspberries

Sammy has discovered the fine art of blowing raspberries!

It took me a second to get him going again. Of course, before I got the camera out he was doing them non stop. Silly boy! Enjoy!
